Experience:
After a number of years as a senior social worker in adult social care, I chose to retrain as a counsellor. I began my counselling practice in the voluntary sector but also have been offering online counselling independently. My experience includes working with people who have been through traumatic experiences, have been experiencing stress, low self-esteem, addictive processes, anxiety and depression. I recognise that trauma can come in many forms, including, for example, bullying or other adverse childhood experiences.
I am passionate about what counselling can offer. I also retain strong values about human rights and anti-oppressive practice.
What do I offer?
I use the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach to counselling. IFS is very much about us working with ways we carry wounds from our past and protect ourselves from the impact of these wounds or from re-experiencing similar wounds. The focus of the work is acknowledging and valuing these defences and promoting a compassionate inner dialogue. With the agreement of these protective parts, healing can then take place. Work is only done with the permission of each part of you. It is wholly up to you what you want to work on in each session, including what you feel safe enough to explore at any point.
I originally trained in person centred/ integrative counselling, I offer weekly one to one counselling for adults and this could be either short or long term according to your needs.
NB I can offer more flexibility around the frequency of sessions with online counselling sessions.
